Corvus Blue Whale ESS

The Corvus Blue Whale marine energy storage system is designed specifically for large vessels, like Cruise Ships and Ro-Pax, and vessels that require a large amount of energy.

The Corvus Blue Whale marine battery energy storage system is designed for use in Cruise, Ro-Pax, Ro-Ro, Mega Yachts, and other vessels where the operational profile calls for low C-Rate, slow battery system charge and discharge rates, and emissions-free sailing over long periods of time.

Extending the range of zero-emission operations for Cruise, Ro-Pax, and other large maritime vessels

Blue Whale was developed with large marine energy storage installations in mind, specifically battery systems that require more than 10MWh total system energy. Optimization for energy density enables Blue Whale to deliver more power. This in turn extends the vessel’s ability to maintain zero-emission operations, including during transit through emissions-restricted zones and zero-emission port stays.

Applications

The Corvus Blue Whale ESS is ideal for marine applications that require a large amount of energy at a cost-effective kWh price. Typical vessel-types include:

  • Cruise Ships
  • Ro-Ro / Ro-Pax

Advancing marine energy storage technology with the Corvus Blue Whale

The Corvus Orca ESS, the most installed marine energy storage system worldwide, set the industry standard for maritime energy storage reliability and safety. The Blue Whale design incorporates the unsurpassed safety features of the Orca, and additionally provides key advances required to meet the energy demands of large vessels. This includes improved energy density, with weight and volume reduced by ~30% and ~50 % compared to Orca. Learn more about Blue Whale via the video and product specifications below.

Corvus Energy safety innovations

Passive-Single-Cell-level Thermal Runaway (TR) Isolation

  • True cell-level thermal runaway isolation
  • TR does not propagate to neighbouring cells
  • Isolation NOT dependent on active cooling

Exceeds Class and Flag standards TR Gas venting

  • Integrated thermal runaway gas exhaust system
  • Easily vented to external atmosphere rather than the battery room
