Mechanical Engineer Sustaining

Position Summary

This position is on the Blue Whale ESS Engineering team. Blue Whale ESS is a newly developed product which Corvus is ramping up production on in a newly installed semi-automated production line in Richmond.  The Blue Whale ESS is Corvus’s latest market leading product that targets very large marine applications that require massive battery storage systems. Many exciting innovations have been introduced by this product that will help accelerate and shape the electrification of the marine industry.

Main tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to the Blue Whale product to solve design issues or improve its design throughout the products lifecycle. Will need to work within the constraints of the existing design, product requirements, established supply chain, and manufacturing of the Blue Whale product.
  • Planning and implementing engineering change orders (e.g. design changes, second sourcing, cost reduction, etc.)
  • Work with a cross disciplinary team of sustaining engineers to resolve Corrective Action Reports using 8D process
  • Respond to internal technical enquiries on released products and support engineers in the field with troubleshooting advise and background analysis
  • Occasional travel to customer sites to discuss technical aspect of products and/or support commissioning or service activities
  • Communicate with vendors to improve/resolve challenges with volume manufacturable designs in Plastics, Castings, Extrusions, Brazed Assemblies, Sheet Metal, Machined Parts, etc.
  • Work with our manufacturing group to optimize designs for assembly.
  • Other duties as required.

Work experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelors or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a product development/manufacturing company and experience related to the role.
  • Proficient at SolidWorks and 3D CAD Software.
  • Familiarity with mass manufacturing technologies and heat management techniques will be an asset.
  • Hands-on experience building prototypes, test jigs, and fixtures.
  • Experience in FEA analysis, DFMEA’s, PDM and volume manufacturing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
