Senior Mechanical Technician

Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical Technician is responsible for providing hands on prototyping services using a variety of rapid prototyping strategies and equipment.  Rapid prototyping with quick turn hardware for testing is key to Corvus’s goals of providing short development times for new products or product feature implementation. This position is on the Modular Battery Equipment Team within the Engineering Proof of Concept (“EPOC”) Group.

Main tasks and Responsibilities

  • Empowered to quickly develop Proof of Concept prototypes to inform design and manufacturing process development.
  • Performing rapid prototyping activities using the following techniques.
    • 3D printing – Inhouse and externally sourced depending on print needs
    • Laser cutting – Inhouse and externally sourced depending on cutting needs
    • Cell bonding (welding, etc.) using a variety of internal equipment such as: Micro Tig, Spot Welding, Laser
    • Metal/plastics fabrication (milling, lathing, cutting, bending, shearing, welding, bonding)
  • Supporting hardware needs of test group
  • Providing functional testing feedback to Design and Manufacturing teams.
  • Ensuring requirements of design activities are being met. 
  • Providing prototyping services to other groups and teams within Corvus.
  • Responsible for maintaining and running Corvus prototyping equipment.
  • Responsible for training/supervising new users of prototyping equipment.
  • Interfacing and working with other disciplines such as: Electrical Engineers, Test Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Software Engineers, System Engineers, Project Managers, Procurement Specialists, Quality Technicians and External vendors. 

Work experience and Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience 
  • Metal fabrication skills
  • Experience running CNC equipment
  • Knowledge of high voltage electrical systems is nice to have
  • CAD software competency is nice to have
