The integration of Corvus lithium ion battery technologies with Siemens Blue Drive is providing revolutionary operational efficiencies to marine propulsion systems. The energy management system of the Edda Ferd will dynamically set engine loads to real time optimal operation levels with active battery assist. During Dynamic Positioning (DP) operation the advantages are substantial as the Corvus Energy Storage System absorbs load fluctuation, allowing the diesel generators to operate more efficiently.

Østensjø Rederi was at the annual Offshores Support Journal Awards 2013 and awarded the prestigious Environmental Award for its new build, the PSV Edda Ferd.

“Our internal tests have been impressive with quick charge rates and superior flexibility. Corvus’ engineering support has been outstanding, and we look forward to growing this supplier relationship.”
Johannes Østensjø, owner of Østensjø Rederi

Operating Profile
As can be seen in the graph, Dynamic Positioning requires a large portion of vessel energy resources. Major fuel savings can be captured in the efficiencies that Corvus Energy Storage Systems bring to active DP operations, as well as waiting offshore and in-harbour low speed manoeuvering.

CORVUS Energy Storage System ESS Benefits:

• Low emission of greenhouse gases
• Low fuel consumption
• Low investment cost compared to gas/dual fuel systems
• Reduced maintenance cost on diesel engines
• Increased lifetime of diesel engines, especially for high-speed engines
• Reduced space, volume and weight of the electrical system
• Increased overall efficiency of the electric system
• Clean power supply to all auxiliary consumers
