General Electric to use new Orca Energy Storage System (ESS) from Corvus Energy

GE’s Power Conversion business will be integrating Orca ESS technology for merchant, naval and offshore applications at its marine power test facility and customer demonstration center.

Richmond, B.C – September 5, 2016 – GE’s Power Conversion business has chosen Corvus’ new Orca ESS to install in their marine power test facility and customer demonstration center.  The center integrates various GE and supplier technologies, such as the Orca ESS from Corvus Energy,  for merchant, naval and offshore applications and then demonstrates this integration capability and technology to customers. More specifically, this center will be developing, testing and demonstrating the interfaces between the advanced Orca ESS and GE’s industry-leading converters, Power Management and Energy Management Systems in order to facilitate the design and deployment of hybrid systems for merchant, naval and offshore marine systems.

“Corvus is thrilled to have GE’s Power Conversion business as one of our early customers for the new, advanced Orca ESS.” said Corvus President & CEO, Andrew Morden. “GE is a world leader in the merchant, naval and offshore marine markets and Corvus looks forward to working with them to integrate Orca into their standard hybrid product for these important markets.”

“GE selected Corvus after a rigorous evaluation process, based on their superior safety, functionality and advanced design.” said Jon Childs, GE Marine Application Engineering,  “We look forward to utilizing the Orca ESS to add significant value to our hybrid systems in our marine and other markets and to demonstrating it to our customers in our new customer demonstration center.”
