Learn how the leading ferry operator in Norway, Fjord1, and other shipowners use Corvus Energy cloud-based technology to monitor and optimize battery performance across their fleet. Watch the video below and find an overview of Corvus Energy’s industry-leading digital solutions.
Using data to improve battery system performance and lifetime
Every day Corvus Energy collects battery system performance data from hundreds of vessels around the globe. This data allows us to continuously monitor performance remotely, in real-time, from our service operation center that’s manned 24/7.
Why monitoring performance data matters
Each battery system is designed to a specific operational profile. As a result, operating within the designed range improves energy efficiency and can extend the lifetime of the system. Conversely, not operating within the designed range reduces efficiency and can cause unintended system wear-and-tear. For these reasons, monitoring actual use is critical to get the most out of your battery system.
Proactively troubleshoot and prevent vessel downtime
Corvus Energy’s cloud-based tool monitors battery system energy flows and key metrics, such as temperature, state of charge and cycle equivalent, on a continuous basis. If an abnormality in the operation of a system is detected, we notify the vessel operator to troubleshoot and plan mitigating actions. Early detection and proactive troubleshooting are key to help safeguard operation and prevent vessel downtime.
Enabling shipowners to make high-quality, data-backed decisions
To provide real-time access to battery system performance data to shipowners and operators, Corvus Energy developed the Corvus Vessel Information Portal. The industry-leading, cloud-based monitoring tool provides intuitive dashboards and reports that make it easy to determine if a system is being operated within optimal parameters. Performance data helps operators understand system behaviour, identify trends and make high-quality decisions to improve system efficiency and lifetime.
Fleet Benchmarking
For shipowners with larger electric/hybrid fleets, the Corvus Vessel Information Portal provides further benefits. You can evaluate energy storage system performance across an entire fleet in one fleetwide overview dashboard or compare vessels and drill down to review key performance metrics.
Reduce downtime with digital State of Health testing
With Corvus Energy, class-required battery system State of Health (SOH) testing can be conducted digitally, without the associated time and cost of taking the vessel out of operation. Corvus is the first marine battery system supplier to develop a DNV-accepted method for data-driven SOH testing. Time-and-cost efficient, digital SOH testing makes more frequent testing a viable option to support improved safety and predictable operation, especially toward the end of the system life.
A secure cloud-based tool
The Corvus Orca ESS received DNV Type Approval for Cyber Security, indicating that Corvus’ control and monitoring system meets stringent DNV safety, quality, and performance requirements related to cyber security. Corvus is pursuing cyber security Type Approvals for its full product range.
