Corvus Energy to power first hybrid platform supply vessels in Gulf of Mexico

Orca ESS from Corvus Energy has been selected to provide battery power to 4 SEACOR platform supply vessels

Richmond, B.C. – February 26, 2018 – Corvus Energy is pleased to announce that it has been selected by SEACOR Marine and Kongsberg Maritime as the supplier of lithium ion-based energy storage systems (ESS) for 4 platform supply vessels (PSVs) being retrofitted with a state-of-the-art hybrid power system. The Orca Energy ESS from Corvus will supply electrical power to the PSVs’ propulsion and dynamic positioning system’s electrical network to enable safe, environmentally-friendly and lower cost operations.

All 4 PSVs are owned by Mantenimiento Express Marítimo SAPI de CV (“MEXMAR”), SEACOR Marine’s joint venture in Mexico. A Corvus Orca ESS will first be added to the SEACOR Maya PSV, which is due to have its retrofit completed this month. By July 2018, hybrid power retrofits will be completed for three additional Mexico-based SEACOR vessels: the SEACOR Azteca, SEACOR Warrior and SEACOR Viking. Typical vessel operations will utilize the batteries to provide spinning reserve during critical vessel operations such as dynamic positioning, as well as to provide support for peak shaving, enabling the diesel engines to operate more efficiently. Utilizing battery power from the Orca ESS will not only reduce the environmental footprint of the offshore operations but will also significantly reduce operational costs, including fuel & maintenance on the engines.

“We are confident in the energy saving and safety elements of the Corvus Orca ESS for SEACOR Maya and keen to start migration of more of our vessels to this unique, environmentally friendly and highly efficient power solution,” said Tim Clerc, Manager of Engineering, SEACOR Marine.

“Corvus is proud to be a key partner in SEACOR’s commitment to the environment and their goal of sustainable and energy efficient operations”, says Halvard Hauso, Senior Vice President of Sales at Corvus Energy. “Utilizing an Orca ESS as part of the Kongsberg hybrid solution, these PSVs will become the first hybrid PSVs in the Americas to help clients meet strict environmental regulations for reducing NOx, SOx and CO2 emissions.”

As the leading manufacturer of energy storage systems for maritime applications, Corvus continues to lead the industry with 100+ projects utilizing a Corvus ESS, now totaling over 75MWh and 1.5 million operating hours.

News Release

Corvus Energy ESS selected by Rolls-Royce for new multipurpose hybrid vessel

Corvus Energy has been selected to provide a 3 MWh Orca ESS for a new Norwegian Coastal Authority hybrid vessel

Richmond, B.C. – October 9, 2017 – Corvus Energy is pleased to announce that it has been selected by Rolls-Royce as the supplier of a lithium ion based energy storage system (ESS) for the Norwegian Coastal Administration’s new multipurpose vessel OV Ryvingen. The Orca Energy ESS from Corvus will supply electrical power for all-electric propulsion and for electrical needs while docked.

The OV Ryvingen is the Norwegian Coastal Administration’s second vessel to combine traditional diesel power with battery-driven operation and the fourth vessel in the Norwegian Coastal Administration’s fleet renewal programme, consisting of six to eight ships in total. The Ryvingen is a multipurpose vessel, which performs operations relating to oil spill protection and the maintenance of shipping lanes.

The Orca ESS that Rolls-Royce will equip the Ryvingen with will have an available capacity of 2938 kilowatt hours (kWh). This will allow the Ryvingen to run on battery power alone for several hours, without using the diesel engine. In addition, the batteries will provide power when the vessel is docked, so the diesel engines will not have to be kept running. The batteries will be recharged from an onshore power supply in ports where this is available.

The complete equipment package will also cut noise and vibration levels on board, making the Norwegian Coastal Administration’s newest vessel, a better workplace for the crew. The 46.6m long and 12m wide OV Ryvingen is scheduled for delivery towards the end of 2018.

“The electrification of vessels will see an increasing utilization of higher battery capacities”, says Halvard Hauso, Senior Vice President of Business Development of Corvus Energy. “As with the Ryvingen, an increasing number of vessels will use the Orca energy storage system to deliver a greater proportion of the vessel’s power.”

As the leading manufacturer of energy storage systems for maritime applications, Corvus offers the innovative Orca ESS solutions portfolio and has unsurpassed experience from 90+ projects, totaling over 50MWh and 1.5 million operating hours.

News Release

Corvus Energy wins new project to power hybrid offshore oil & gas platform supply vessels

Orca ESS from Corvus Energy has been selected to provide battery power to two Havila offshore platform supply vessels chartered by Statoil

Richmond, B.C. – October 2, 2017 – Corvus Energy is pleased to announce that it has been selected as the supplier of lithium ion based energy storage systems (ESS) for two platform supply vessels (PSVs) being retrofitted with hybrid power systems. The Orca Energy ESS from Corvus will supply electrical power to each PSVs propulsion system electrical network to enable environmentally-friendly and lower cost operations. The two Havila-owned vessels are part of a larger group of PSVs that were awarded long-term charter contracts by Statoil, under the condition that they convert to hybrid power operations using batteries.

The 94m Havila Foresight and the 93m Havila Charisma will each be fitted with a 650kWh Orca Energy ESS from Corvus, supported in part by the NOx fund. With these 2 additional vessels, this now makes 6 vessels awarded to Corvus, under charter by Statoil.

The hybridization of these two vessels is part of Statoil’s ambition of being a leading company in carbon-efficient oil and gas production. Statoil is focusing on reducing emissions from their logistics activities and has mandated that all new charters shall utilize energy storage systems during all aspects of the PSV’s operation, particularly during dynamic positioning and harbour operations where fuel consumption and emissions will be significantly reduced. Equally important to the ship owners and Statoil, the ESS will increase safety through provision of spinning reserve for improved response time as well as increased redundancy.

“Corvus is proud to be part of Statoil’s commitment to the environment and their goal of becoming a leader in cleaner oil & gas production as they leverage renewable energy technologies such as the Orca ESS”, says Roger Rosvold, Sales Manager of Corvus Energy. “In collaboration with Havila, our teams have developed the optimal solution to meet the aggressive environmental, safety, performance and cost objectives.”

As the leading manufacturer of energy storage systems for maritime applications, Corvus continues to lead the industry with 90+ installations utilizing a Corvus ESS, now totaling over 50MWh and 1.5 million operating hours.
