Corvus Energy to power all hybrid PSVs in the Gulf of Mexico

News Release

Orca ESS from Corvus Energy has been selected to provide battery power for 3 additional SEACOR platform supply vessels

Richmond, B.C. – February 27, 2018 – Corvus Energy is pleased to announce that it has been selected by SEACOR Marine and Rolls-Royce to provide lithium ion-based energy storage systems (ESS) for 3 new platform supply vessels (PSVs) being fitted with hybrid power systems. The brand-new PSVs were acquired by SEACOSCO, a joint venture between SEACOR and China Cosco Shipping Group (COSCO), and will be retrofitted into hybrid vessels.

As with most hybrid PSVs, typical vessel operations will utilize the batteries to provide spinning reserve during critical vessel operations such as dynamic positioning, as well as to provide support for peak shaving, enabling the diesel engines to operate more efficiently. Utilizing battery power from the Orca ESS will not only reduce the environmental footprint of the offshore operations but will also significantly reduce operational costs, including fuel and energy maintenance.

With these latest project wins, the Corvus Orca ESS will be providing battery power to seven SEACOR hybrid PSVs and 100% of the hybrid PSVs operating in the Gulf of Mexico.

“Corvus is pleased to be an integral part of SEACOR’s growing fleet of hybrid PSVs”, says Halvard Hauso, Senior Vice President of Sales at Corvus Energy. “Tightly integrated with the Rolls-Royce hybrid power solution, the Orca ESS will enable these vessels to achieve environmental and energy efficiency benefits.”

As the leading manufacturer of energy storage systems for maritime applications, Corvus continues to lead the industry with 100+ projects utilizing a Corvus ESS, now totaling over 75MWh and 1.5 million operating hours.
