Since its founding in 1862, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), a New York not-for-profit corporation, has been committed to setting standards for safety and excellence as one of the world’s leading ship classification societies.

The surveyors, engineers, researchers and regulatory specialists who form the ABS team work in more than 200 offices in 70 countries around the world providing traditional classification services as well as on-the-ground technical services in asset performance, energy efficiency, environmental performance and life cycle management. DNV is an independent foundation with the purpose of safeguarding life, property, and the environment. Their history goes back to 1864, when the foundation was established in Norway to inspect and evaluate the technical condition of Norwegian merchant vessels.

Since then, their core competence has been to identify, assess, and advise on how to manage risk. DNV Maritime and Oil & Gas provides classification, verification, risk management and technical advisory services to the global maritime and oil and gas industries.

E-12586 for full energy storage system

Lloyd’s Register Type Approval is an impartial certification service providing independent third-party Type Approval certificates attesting to a product’s conformity with specific standards or specifications, and verification of an appropriate production quality system. Marine Equipment Directive and Mutual Recognition type approval certification is also available.

It is based on a design review and type testing or, where type testing is inappropriate, a design analysis. There is growing international awareness of the importance of third-party certification.
